IPIA MEMBERS GET FREE WEBSITE MOT date added: 23/11/2006
One of the IPIA’s newest recruits is offering their fellow members a free M.O.T. for their websites.
Grainger UK joined the IPIA when Craig Whitney joined them recently in a business development role from IPIA stalwarts Gemini Digital Colour.
“One of the first things I insisted on was Grainger joining the fold” said Craig, “having worked very hard with Gemini to reap the benefits of membership, I am equally determined that my new company gains the trust and approval of the members through honest and diligent work on their behalf.”
At the recent Print for Business show in Telford, Craig was asked by several companies for an appraisal of their existing web presence. He had this to say on the subject “I suspect that a lot of companies get bamboozled into a website, or try and do it on the cheap, making some very elementary mistakes along the way. So as a way of introducing ourselves, I thought it might be useful to offer a free assessment, with a few pointers on what makes a good website. We’ll put your site through a 10 point check-up, to make sure it’s compliant with the latest standards, including disability access requirements. We’ll also tell you how visible it is to search engines and give you a few tips on how it could be improved”
“You can take these suggestions to your existing supplier, implement them yourself, or let us take care of it for you. It’s entirely up to you what you do with the information we provide”
Websites are only half the story for Grainger UK though, as part of the Grainger Group they offer a full marketing consultancy, graphic design, brand development and project implementation. Craig takes up the story “We don’t just turn up, spend half a day, write you a report full of buzzwords , charge you a fortune to tell you what you already knew and leave you to it! So we’re not consultants in the truest sense of the words…. We much prefer to get our hands dirty, understanding what you want to achieve, working with you to identify your needs and developing then implementing a strategy to deliver the results you want. If you think you need a new look, ask yourself why, who are we talking to?, how do we wish to be seen by clients and competitors?. When you begin to rationalise these things, you get a better, clearer question and better questions make for better answers”
With 25 years in the industry, Craig is well placed to understand the needs and concerns of manufacturers and print managers alike. Grainger UK intend to offer a dedicated service tailored to the specific demands of the independent print industry. Already talking to several members about their branding, marketing and internet requirements, it looks like our new recruits have made themselves very much at home!
CPS LTD REELS IN A4 COLOUR BUSINESS date added: 23/11/2006
CPS announces the arrival of new plant and equipment.
IPIA member, CPS Ltd has this month confirmed its commitment to the rapidly growing A4 reel to sheet market, by announcing the arrival of new plant and equipment at its Manchester based production facility. The company, which has traditionally operated in the continuous print sector, has made the move into A4 colour work and business forms, to equip the business to fulfil growing demand from its customer base.
Investments made by CPS include an Edelmann five colour press, which features a batch and wrap system, to automatically package reams of stationery for a high end professional finish, and a cardboard insertion point to seamlessly produce A4 and A5 pads.
This new machine complements a Muller Martini Concept press and will facilitate greater volumes of multi-colour direct mail production and A4 laser sheets. The four colour press with UV drying and re-run facilities for up to eight colours, reel to reel, reel to fold and reel to sheet, is extremely versatile with the ability to output up to 100,000 A4, four colour sheets per hour.
To complete the new equipment list, a Highwater Python CtP system ensures quality and speed of plate production, allowing screen rulings of 200 lpi and beyond, with its 10 micron laser spot and guaranteed repeatability with its precision plate registration system.
This new equipment has many benefits as Sales Director, Karl Major explains; “As a family business a great strength of CPS has always been our ability to rapidly respond to changing market conditions. We have identified many opportunities in the A4 colour sector and our recent investments have equipped us to respond quickly and effectively.”
Karl continues; “We already have a strong relationship with print management companies and trade printers, but our new equipment will allow us to go that step further. Increasingly, printers and brokers are being asked to handle large full colour print runs which might be outside their usual capacity limits. Now rather than turn the work away CPS can handle the volume for them and take on overflow work when capacity is an issue.”
To learn more about the new reel to sheet capabilities from CPS please phone 0161 787 8898 or visit www.cps-forms.co.uk.
Checkprint Host Officials From Queen''s Award Office date added: 23/11/2006
Checkprint played host to officials from the Queen''s Awards office as they toured the East Midlands
Award-winning cheque security specialists Checkprint played host to officials from the Queen's Awards office as they toured the East Midlands to encourage companies to apply for the equivalent of a corporate knighthood.
During their hour and a half visit to the company in Hinckley, Leicester, the officials were taken on a tour of the premises viewing the company's call centre, cheque printing machines and IT departments. L-R:Queens Award official Stephen Brice and David Moore with Martin Ruda, Managing Director of Checkprint
Martin Ruda, Managing Director of Checkprint, which won the Queen's Award for Innovation last year, also showed the two men how the company's software products help to prevent cheque fraud. Watching a Checkprint system in use, the officials saw how company cheques are scanned in, figures and a full image recorded and the information linked to a database.
Later Martin told the visitors about the difference winning a Queen's Award has made to the company. 'We are not a large company by any means but winning the Queen's Award for Innovation has made the financial industry sit up and take notice. The award enabled us to gain credibility and we have seen business increase considerably. Since winning our award turnover has gone up by about three-quarters of a million pounds. Without a doubt the award has made a big difference to the company,' said Martin.
Commenting after the tour, Stephen Brice, Secretary to the Queen's Awards Office, praised Checkprint's 'outstanding achievement'. He added: 'We could sense the enthusiasm and 'can do' attitude as soon as we walked through the door.'
Martin later attended a Queen's Awards promotional seminar where local businessmen were encouraged to apply for this year's Awards. Martin told delegates at Leicestershire's Rockingham Castle that they had nothing to lose by applying. 'Even a first-attempt disappointment can help you win an award later,' he told colleagues. 'Checkprint was once an unsuccessful applicant but we learned from that. We sought feedback, took that on board, applied again - and were successful second-time around. It's the ultimate business accolade - a corporate knighthood - and I urge you to go for it!'
DOCTECH GIVES ON-STEP APPROACH date added: 23/11/2006
CFH has re-launched its range of personalised integral documents, under the new branch name DocTech.
Total document management company CFH has re-launched its range of personalised integral documents, under the new brand DocTech.
The Bath based company now offers a choice of thirteen different DocTech features, including magnetic stripe plastic cards, stickers, pockets and labels, all effectively capable of being incorporated into a single document. These pre-printed single layer sheets, allow single or multiple-choice features to be created within the document itself, in one manufacturing process. More importantly, they are designed to be compatible with laser, inkjet and digital printers, enabling all personalisation to be over-printed on the document and cards, in just one pass through a printer.
Dave Broadway, Managing Director of CFH, says, “With DocTech we are able to integrate a wide range of mechanical features into documentation, providing print solutions to customers that maximise marketing impact and improve response rates on transactional material. Our advanced printing capability means that any shape, size or number of features can be incorporated into one document, with any number of colours, including full colour, printed both sides.'
As the market moves towards the smarter point of issue ID cards, access cards and windscreen stickers containing electronic data, DocTech products can now incorporate magnetic stripe and radio frequency smart chips into any of their integral components. DocTech produces these added value documents in one inexpensive process, and are currently in use by insurance companies for help line cards; vehicle management companies as customer identity cards; museums and art galleries as membership and admission cards and in a host of other similar applications.
Variable data can be applied to the documents, as well as data storage components, such as bar codes. CFH offers the highest security on its processes, and has been successfully registered to BS ISO 27001:2005 Information Security Management System (ISMS) to ensure the company continues to meet the requirements of APACS.
Superseding the Bi-Millennium range, DocTech products are relevant for many different applications, including bar code labels, address labels, PIN number advice, integral peel-off labels, laminated cards, telephone cards and admission cards.
Since it started printing continuous stationery thirty years ago, CFH has grown into one of the UK’s most innovative suppliers of pioneering end-to-end document processes. For further information, see www.cfh.com/doctech
EASIBIND DEMYSTIFIES LENTICULAR PRINT date added: 25/9/2006
Midlands based packaging and presentation manufacturers, Easibind International have taken a lead on commercially viable Lenticular printing.
Midlands based packaging and presentation manufacturers, Easibind International have taken a lead on commercially viable Lenticular printing, thanks to support from technology partners HP and knowledge sharing programmes with De Montfort University.
Easibind International, members IPIA, have recently recruited James Malbon, a KTP associate from De Montfort University to spearhead the company’s product develop of Lenticular applications.
Utilising HumanEyes technology, HP Indigo s2000 and KBA Genius presses, Easibind International now has the ability to produce a full range of cost effective printed Lenticular effects include flipping, morphing, three-dimensional and animation, from single sheets to applications of over 2000 sheets.
The process of Lenticular printing, which converts static, two-dimensional images into three-dimension effects, visually adding motion and depth is nothing new. But until recently the print process involved was considerably complex. This rendered short run, on demand printing virtually unviable, but now thanks to the digitalisation of Lenticular print, engaging, interactive imagery can be incorporated in to everyday items such as posters, packaging, business cards, postcard, point of sale/point of purchase displays and promotional items to name but a few.
Natalie continues ‘In today’s marketplace organisations need to differentiate their offering. Research has proven that three-dimensional Lenticular images have a 'stopping power' five times greater than conventional two-dimensional print and four times the 'staying power,' This makes Lenticular printing highly attractive to retailers, producers of direct mail and for promotional items’.
To support graphic designers, print buyers and managers to understand the creation and application process for Lenticular printing, Easibind have created a Lenticular specialist presentation which is available on request by calling Natalie Pritchard Business Development Manager or James Malbon, Lenticular Specialist on 01773 761341.
Easibind will be exhibiting at the IPIA Print for Business Show at The International Centre, Telford, 11th & 12th October, Stand 192.
